| Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 July 1952. Prominent here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9493 and two more "FF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9493 was built in October of 1950 and retired in April of 1965. Partially visible on the right is PRR engine #5826, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September of 1948, originally rated as a 3,000 horsepower BP-60 for passenger service, later rebuilt into a 2,500 horsepower BH-50 for freight/helper/pusher service, and retired in Septemberl of 1962. All of these locomotives await their next helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Also visible in the background are portions of the 7th Street Bridge and the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. |
