The MTM/Zephyr had a large challenge when BN donated the line in 1983. In one mile there 7 or more curves with worn rail and ties. After a minor derailment of the Zephyr shortly after start up on this curve, which was the longest on the RR, contractors were hired to gut it and replace all the outside rail and alot of the ties and put gauge bars in it. The museum spent over $150,000 bringing the line back up to class 2 standards. |
