DTI 4-4-0 #16 - Detroit, Toledo & Ironton  Contributor's Pick!
Interesting side story for this little 4-4-0 American-style steam locomotive - built for the Midland Pennsylvania 1914 (only one ordered), this Eight-wheeler was repossessed by Baldwin and sold to the DT & I. That railroad used #16 on its Toledo-Detroit Railroad subsidiary hence several sources list it as a Toledo-Detroit locomotive only. In 1928 the DT & I donated #16 to Henry Ford's Edison Institute in Dearborn, where it remained on display for decades. In 1980, the Ford Museum traded #16 to the Illinois Railway Museum where it resides today. Photo from the Harold K. Vollrath collection.
