Prominent here is a photo taken by Linn H. Westcott that was published originally in the January 1953 issue of "Trains & Travel" magazine, pages 32-33. Photo Caption: "Interchange in a snowstorm: A Pennsylvania diesel idles at Effner, Ill., waiting for a Toledo, Peoria, & Western engine to come get the train that the Pennsy crew has brought from Logansport. Effner is a direct interchange point which straddles the Indiana-Illinois border." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5681, an LS-25 built by Lima-Hamilton in 1950, rated at 2,500 horsepower, and retired in March of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
