UP on the Rock Island
Title:  UP on the Rock Island
Description:  We head west for the next couple of sets, taken on a trip to Denver in August and September. The first set is of a westbound UP train on the former Rock Island Golden State Route, along US 54 from Greensburg Kan to a town called Bloom. Two units have 123 stack platforms in hand, making their way toward El Paso and the ex SP.

Back onto the main
Title:  Back onto the main
Description:  I caught up to the train again at Bloom, Kan, where he was clearing the west end of the siding there. I keep trying to picture this with a set of battered Rock GEs, or GP 35s.

Theyre everywhere
Title:  Theyre everywhere
Description:  Many towns have grain elevators out here, not surprising given that this is wheat country. Quite a few of the smaller town elevators are no longer rail served, due to the economics of unit trains. This one still had a siding, so perhaps its still an active rail customer.

Into the sunset
Title:  Into the sunset
Description:  The westbound rolls away from me into a Kansas evening. Theres still a siding switch here for the elevator. MP 363 is from Kansas City. I had to give up on the chase here, as there was a detour on US 54 that took me away from the tracks, from Minneola to Meade via US 283 and 160. Oh well.
