This fair b&w photo taken by Guy Luther Dunscomb caught the 1895 Schenectady built 4-8-0 "Mastodon" type steam loco sitting in a storage line. #2913 was the last to be scrapped from the class when it went to the torches in January of 1951, at 55 very productive years with SP.The location was not specified. Specs - class GA/TW, 54" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 22x26" cylinders, engine weight of 175,000 lb, tractive effort of 35,655 lb. Although no location was given on the photo, it probably was Sacramento. |
