Dad was a purchasing manager for the NY Times for a number of years, starting in the mid 70s. Hed occasionally go over to the plant where they printed most of the Sunday editions, in Carlstadt NJ. He always took photos, and we have a forklift unloading one of the 11 cars in the building that day. Those paper rolls weigh about 1800 lbs, and they got, I think, about 60 on a 50 foot car. Note the stenciling on the car for international and newsprint service only. |
