Just curious, what did the scrappers do with this engine block--i.e., did they haul it away, or try to cut it up on site, or just shove it off into the brush? I too wish at least some of this locomotive could have been spared.

Thf block was hauled off for scrap. It was pretty well devoid of parts. Liners, pistons, conecting rods, cams, cam gears, cylinder heads, turbo, manifold. All of these were gone before we got it. What you are looking at is a block and a spun crankshaft. Any usful parts left on this locomotive were salvaged before scrapping.
