| The one time home of William Gillette along the Connecticut River. Gillette, an actor famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, was very interested in railroading and had a private narrow gauge railroad that traversed the grounds for his guests to ride on. There are also several fixtures in the castle that are designed to look like trains or other railroad structures. Also the castle, now part of Gillette Castle State Park, is located right across the river from the Valley Railroad, whose steam locomotives can be heard at various times during the day. |
