The first large snowstorm of the season finally found its way to Indiana. But, this time instead of tracking north like most weather systems do, this one tracked to the south, and dumped between a half to a whole foot of snow in most places around Indianapolis and south. Despite there not being quite that much on the ground on the Indy Line, thats where I decided to go, as I had very few snow shots with the trilights. And with them coming down here any day now, it was the perfect opportunity to do so. I met Craig early in the morning and we began our day. There was still about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground around Ansonia/Union City. Plenty to take photos in. We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited (which isnt too uncommon for the Indy Line) and nothing showed. Turned out we could have began our day much later. Along with the snow, it was brutally cold outside this day (sub zero air temperatures actually) and there were several breaks in the rails between Indy and Sidney, two of which were side by side at Dawn on different mains. So, as it turned out, we really didnt need to begin our day until about 11:00 AM instead of 7:30 AM. But, thats the game you play when watching trains. Trains were beginning to pile up around 10, and by the time the rails were replaced at Dawn, they got underway again. CSX I131 started our day in Elroy, passing the QI 193 trilights with the normal pair of UP GEVOs.
