Grenada Switcher         
(he Grenada Switcher is doing a little switching at North Yard. The engineer is JL Crawford and the switchman is Curtis Hopson, AKA "Hop". JL holds the speed record on the Grenada!District. In 1969 on the northbound Panama Limited, he went 2 miles in 59 seconds, thats 122 MPH, between Como and Senatobia. JL retired in 2004 and Hop retired in 2009. Photo bz Fred Goff.

Joe Marascalco General Yea, just think of all the expensive technology and higher standard tracks required for speeds that fast today. All the old heads told me that back then, running between 100 and 110 between every station was an every day occurrence and the Grenada District's track was as smooth as glass. 2/20/2012 2:52:46 AM
