Crossing the Nooksack
BN's Intalco Local crosses the Nooksack River at Ferndale WA in May 1994. GP38-2 2084 leads sister 2367. The swing section of the bridge would seem to indicate that at some point the mighty Nooksack was considered a navigable river.

"The Mighty Nooksack", love it. My late wife and I were speculating on the meaning of "Nooksack" and I came up with "floods every year".

http://www.bellinghamherald.com/special-pub/centennial/160531.shtml Nice picture of river boat on Nooksack. Same deal with the Skagit River-steamboats almost like the Mississippi cut through the deep old growth forests by water faster than they could log until power equipment came on line.

This bridge was built with the knowledge that the "Steamer-Boat" era was no more.
