PRR 7050, EFS-17M, c. 1957 |
Description: |
Here is the seventh of eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7050, #7113, and another "Geep" whose road number is not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7050 was constructed in October of 1956, while #7113 was built in May of 1957. They're pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona. Also visible is PRR & Railway Express N-5 cabin car #5001. |

PRR 5991, ES-6, 1963 |
Description: |
PGH-ALT-63. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Pittsburgh to Altoona on 8 September 1963. Shown here is PRR engine #5991, an ES-6 switcher built by GM-EMD in March of 1948 and rated at 600 horsepower. It's shifting two "Railway Express" cabin cars (viz., #5001 and #5024), just East of the PRR's Passenger Station in Pittsburgh. (My train is moving from left to right.) |
