Description:  AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1967. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6000, #6007, and #6509. All were built during 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6000 and #6007 are EF-25A's built by GM-EMD, whereas #6509 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. In this context, they're rounding the Curve on their way back down to East Altoona for yet another helper or pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back.

Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6038 and #6001. Both are EF-25A's built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pushing a 95-car iron-ore train on the Hollidaysburg Branch Line to the Wye Switches and up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back to East Altoona for another run up the Allegheny Mountains. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible is the interlocking directly in front of ALTO Tower (not shown) and the headlight beam for an on-coming coal train pulled by engine #8570. Description:  7th Street. Here is `n original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6001, #6304, and another unit whose number is Sot recorded. #6001 is an EF-25A built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6304 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700,horsepower. They are pushing a mixed-cargo freight train under the 7th Street Bridge on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where tley will uncouple and return to East Altoona to make another run up the Mountains. They are parked at the Altoona Passenger Station, awaiting their next passenger train "helper" assignment up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and return to the Station for yet another westbound "helper" assignment.

This train will surmount the Allegheny Mountains ~ visible in the distance ~ on its way to the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note the two coal trains on the left, then the westbound freight on the right, and a single passenger-helper locomotive a bit further over.

Description:  WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engine #6038 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by EMD. #6038 is an EF-25A built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are parked just east of the 4th Street Bridge, and their crew awaits orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West with an iron-ore train. Partially visible a couple of tracks over are three ALCo locomotives pushing a westbound freight train out of the Yard.
