The Veterans of the Rails
Title:  The Veterans of the Rails
Description:  Two examples from NJ Transit's once large fleet of GP40 rebuilds sit side-by-side on 2 Depot at Hoboken Terminal. The two engines were both born in LaGrange, IL in October of 1968. One a GP40P for the CNJ, the other a GP40 for the Penn Central. The came together on the same roster following heavy rebuilds in the mid-90s at the Juniata Locomotive Shops. Rebuilds that made them look nearly identical until 2019 when the 4109 received its CNJ heritage paint.

Celebrating 242 Years
Title:  Celebrating 242 Years
Description:  The day marks 242 years since the Second Continental Congress ratified the Declaration of Independence after already being at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain for over a year. This seemingly quiet, humid night at Hoboken Terminal turned into a roaring thunderstorm of colorful explosions from displays both massive and small in every which way you looked. Just as the huge flowing bursts of light from the Macys East River fireworks display started to decorate the night sky Train #81 was all business as it was just about ready to depart for the long 2½ trip to Port Jervis, NY.

Description:  One of the Morristown & Erie's recent acquisitions awaits work alongside one of NJ Transit's commuter diesels. ME 23 started off life on the ATSF before heading to the northern Maine woods to work the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. NJT 4212 was built as an EMD demonstrator unit before going to work for Penn Central and later Conrail. Both are rebuilds, 23 by the Santa Fe from a GP-7 and 4212 from a GP40 by Conrail for NJ Transit.

Description:  Train #55 passes the Erie Railroad's historic WC Tower with a 51-year old GP40 that started life as EMD Demonstrator EMDX 24. The bottom of this frame contains a portion of the original model board that called this very same tower home for many years. In time it will be mounted in its rightful place again as the towers restoration to it's 1920's appearance continues.

Upper Hack Lift
Title:  Upper Hack Lift
Description:  Westbound Train #57 crosses the Hackensack River at Upper Hack drawbridge on its way to Port Jervis. The bridge currently holds the title of the newest movable bridge on NJ Transit property. It was built by the Delaware Lackawanna & Western in 1958 to replace the original two-track span that was outdated and damaged by tidal river currents. The expenses related to building this bridge were among the final straws to break the camels back for the Lackawanna Railroad that would eventually result in the official merger of the Erie and the Lackawanna in October of 1960.
