Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5822 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's for passenger service and rated at 3,000 horsepower each; both were later regeared for freight service and reclassified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. Here is a postal card entitled "Pennsylvania 5822." No Postmark. Caption On Reverse: "A pair of Baldwin Centipede diesels has a freight well in hand. Altoona, Penn., July 1960. These locomotives, class BH50, were originally built for passenger service, class BP60, 6,000 h.p. for a semi-permanently coupled pair. Photo by David R. Photo Caption: "DR-12-8-3000, Pennsylvania No. 5822. Philadelphia, Pa. May 25, 1961." Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5822, another "Centipede," and a Baldwin-built switcher whose road number is not recorded. Both "Centipedes" were constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's for passenger service and rated at 3,000 horsepower each; both were later regeared for freight service and reclassified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service.
