Album Info:For the first time in 10 years the CSX OCS would be embarking westward over the CSX Indianapolis Line Subdivision. Recently, CSX had repainted 2 of the F40PH's from Amtrak and the entire passenger car set into a very sleek B&O Liverly. Unfortunately for everyone west of Cleveland, the lead unit (CSX 1) began to experience PTC issues so they tacked on a pair of (surprisingly fresh) GEVO's on the head end. Despite this, I decided it was worth a go anyway, as the tower in Union City was to be moved to the community park in the following months, and the only chance I would have to get some last photos of it would be this day. I decided to follow the Indy Line eastward and I was quite impressed with my results! Enjoy!

CSX 721
Title:  CSX 721
Description:  With the hoopla about the CSX OCS running over the Indy Line today, I decided, despite the F40PHs trailing, it was worth it to run down to Union City to grab some final shots of the tower before its relocation. The OCS was slated to be into Anderson shortly before noon, which allowed some other traffic to try to fit in to the window before it arrived. I had just missed CSX Q364 heading east as I arrived in to town, but almost immediately the trilight heads went yellow and soon I was greeted by an eastbound N312 empty coal train crossing the border into Ohio from Indiana, passing by the tower and through the trilights. Westbound CSX Q131 had been cleared on up Track 2 to head west toward Indianapolis.

UP 8473
Title:  UP 8473
Description:  Now back over on the Indiana side, CSX Q131 rocks west by the tower. UP engines are almost the only foreign power that can be seen leading on the Indy Line these days.

CSX 8024
Title:  CSX 8024
Description:  The crackling of another eastbound came over the scanner so I decided to head back over into Ohio and sit across the street from the grain elevator. Soon enough I picked out the symbol, CSX Q008, the hottest train on the Indy Line. They were giving an engine number, but I only interpreted the first 3 numbers, 802. I was quite surprised when I got outside and heard the recognizable sound of an EMD Prime Mover and a sharp K5LA. CSX 8024, a veteran L&N SD40-2, was leading todays UPS Mail toward New Jersey. An almost unheard of sight in 2021. SD40-2s are pretty commonplace leaders on CSX still, but hardly ever do they get tacked on priority trains such as Q008. This ultimately would go down as the best train of the day.

CSX 973
Title:  CSX 973
Description:  I didnt get any time to move before CSX 973 with CSX Q363 in tow showed up westbound. The Union City (Ohio) water tower made for a good prop.

CSX 7225
Title:  CSX 7225
Description:  CSX 7225 faces butt out on the rear of CSX Q363. This train was running way earlier than usual to try to get it beyond Anderson before the OCS showed up.

CSX 3310
Title:  CSX 3310
Description:  After being lined up for well over a half hour, at long last the OCS showed up and passed the Union City Tower. I must admit they did at least make the GEVOs look presentable!

CSX 1
Title:  CSX 1
Description:  CSX 1, the crapped out original leader for CSX P001, now trailing 3rd. That B&O scheme looks amazing on these engines!

Into the Distance!
Title:  Into the Distance!
Description:  The OCS shoots westward toward Muncie, Anderson, and eventually Indianapolis. A very sleek looking set for sure! With that being said I decided I would continue to follow the Indy Line, as I havent shot the trilights along the line in quite a while. I decided I would go as far east as Quincy and come back west. Hoping for some more good action!

CSX 8134
Title:  CSX 8134
Description:  Since most of the traffic had gone through before the OCS, the Indy Line had returned to its normal "deadness" as I call it. But I continued to follow it anyway just in case something popped up. I reached Ansonia and found CSX 8134 idling at the RJ Corman interchange.

CFE 2097
Title:  CFE 2097
Description:  I got reimbursed for not finding the train between Lima and Van Wert when I crossed the Decatur Branch and noticed that the FWDC was still in town. The normal pair of geeps pulled down by IM Power and I was able to get a decent shot with the internal flash. An absolutely spectacular day of railfanning. One that I figured would not completely go to plan. Documented some signals and got some fantastic catches. Until next time!
