Southbound BNSF
Title:  Southbound BNSF
Description:  A southbound BNSF train behind ES44AC 6094 and C44-9W 5126 was rolling passed the Wabtec/GE interchange at Justin, Texas. The name of this switch on the BNSF is Lambert. The locomotives on the interchange were BNSF rebuilt B40-8W’s 526 and 514 along with new Canadian National ET44AC 3173. This is a mile and a half north of Wabtec/GE’s Fort Worth plant, and at one time the track in the right foreground was the BNSF (ex-ATSF) main line between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City. BNSF eventually rerouted its main line, GE acquired a part of the old BNSF line for use as a connection and a test track, added a second track (on the left) and extended a single track a mile and a half to the north (going off on the right).

The locomotive had been built in April 1972 as Southern Pacific SD45T-2 9209, was rebuilt as SP SD45T-2R 6832 in February 1988, sold to a leasing company and then leased back to the SP. It became a Union Pacific loco when the UP merged with the SP in 1996, and after its lease expired in late 1997, it was sold to Locomotive Leasing Partners (LLPX). It was rebuilt by VMV at Paducah with a 16 cylinder, 3000-horsepower prime mover and was leased back to the UP as the 4815 on 16 February 1999. It was renumbered 2847 on 28 September 2001 to make room for a new SD70M and was retired by UP on 31 May 2003 upon the expiration of its lease from LLPX. LLPX sold it to First Union Rail (FURX) and it was leased back to UP on 17 July 2003 as part of its peak power program until it was retired (again) on 26 June 2008. In the background is ITSX SD39 4028, which was previously D&I 4028 and originally SP 5321.
