Album Info:Upon retiring May 31st my wife and I embarked on a coast-to-coast and back Amtrak itinerary as a kind of celebration. We departed Boston for Chicago, then Glacier National Park, then Portland, OR. From Portland we went to Sacramento, then headed back east on the Zephyr and Capitol Limited and ended our itinerary at 30th Street Station in Philly. We slept in roomettes. We stayed in Hotels in each of the interchange cities thereby avoiding the chance of missing our connection when the morning train arrives late enough to cause you to miss an afternoon departure. It turned out to be the great trip I was hoping it would be. On the long distance trains I would typically hop off the train at the longer (10 minutes +) station stops to try to grab a photo of the head end of our train.

Description:  The city of Reno undertook a public works project to dig a 36 foot deep trench through the city to eliminate the traffic congestion caused by on-street running. The Amtrak Station for Reno is down in the trench. The operating crew warned passengers not to venture out of the trench because they could see their train leave without them.
