P&R Freight House
Title:  P&R Freight House
Description:  One of the few surviving freight houses of this design from the Philadelphia & Reading Railway. This one is kept in excellent condition and today is in use as a community center for the town of Milton. The station was built in 1890 and stands across the street from the former PRR/P&E passenger station. The Reading's tracks have long been removed but trains still operate through town on the parallel PRR line, now operated by Norfolk Southern.

P&E Passenger Depot
Title:  P&E Passenger Depot
Description:  Built in 1881 by the Philadelphia & Erie Railroad, this handsome brick station now serves as the town's police department and is kept in excellent condition like the former Reading station across the street. While passenger trains of the Pennsylvania Railroad no longer stop here, the depot still witnesses the passing of daily Norfolk Southern freights.

Title:  Replica ACF Tanker
Description:  Milton, Pennsylvania is home to the manufacturing plant of American Car & Foundry, known for producing all types of railcars. A replica of the first tank car ACF produced stands outside the plant for all to see. A far cry from tank cars one might find on modern day freight trains, this car features four wheels and two wooden tanks for carrying its product.

Description:  Displayed for all to see at the Greenville Railroad Park is one of the largest steam locomotives ever constructed without a leading truck. This 0-10-2 was operated by the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway from 1949 until 1963 when it was acquired by the Bessemer & Lake Erie. The street side of the locomotive has been restored to how it looked while on the DM&IR.

Title:  URR 304
Description:  The Baldwin Locomotive Works built ten 0-10-2 steam locomotives for the Union Railroad, the only ten of this model ever constructed. Number 304 was built in 1936 and served its original owner until 1949 when the arrival of the diesel on the Union saw this locomotive sold to the DM&IR. Donated to the city of Greenville in 1985, the park side of the locomotive has been restored to its Union Railroad look.

The Last Piece

Description:  The only surviving piece of the large coaling tower that used to serve the needs of the Erie Railroad's steam locomotives here in Meadville yard. The tower was constructed in 1928 and finally met its demise under Conrail seventy years later.

Description:  This locomotive may have seen better days but it is definitely worth taking a second look. Originally built by Alco for the Lehigh Valley Railroad as number 151, this unit was received by the Valley in the summer of 1942, a time when our nation was mixed up in the great conflict that was World War II. One of the oldest examples of Lehigh Valley diesel power, it now sits with other out of service Alco switchers along the Buffalo Southern Railroad awaiting its turn for restoration.

Description:  One of two former Long Island Railroad P54 "Ping Pong" coaches acquired from the AC&J out in Ohio for a new tourist operation over the Buffalo Southern Railroad. Car 7133 was constructed by AC&F in 1927 for commuter operations on Long Island, later going into excursion service for various excursion operators including Steamtown in Vermont, Knox & Kane in Pennsylvania, and Ashtabula Carson & Jefferson in Ohio.

Description:  The Buffalo Cattaraugus & Jamestown Scenic Railway's other ex-LIRR Ping Pong awaits excursion service in Hamburg. It appears as though this coach is undergoing restoration into some sort of dining car. Built in 1927 by AC&F, the car seems to have stayed with sister car 7133 after retirement from the Long Island Railroad.

PRR 4483
Title:  PRR 4483
Description:  The WNYRHS' massive former PRR Decapod 4483 sits on display across from the old ERIE Hamburg depot. Constructed by Baldwin in 1923, this locomotive saw heavy freight service in both Pennsylvania and western New York while working for the PRR. Replaced by diesels and retired in 1959, 4483 was moved to a roundhouse in Northumberland, PA to join the rest of the PRR Heritage Collection that upper railroad management was assembling at the time. Unlike most of the other items in the collection which would eventually wind up at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, 4483 left the collection in 1963 for Westinghouse where it would serve as a static display in front of the company's western Pennsylvania headquarters for the next nineteen years, the WNYRHS acquiring it in 1982. 4483 is the last example of a PRR 2-10-0 left in existance today.

Description:  A very rare electric locomotive, CSS 802 was one of twenty units constructed by GE in 1949 for export to the USSR. However due to deteriorating relations between the US and the Soviet Union at the time, the locomotives were instead rebuilt to standard gauge and sold off to American railroads, including the Chicago South Shore & South Bend. 802 served on the Chicago area line until retirement in 1983. Nicknamed "800s" on the CSS, they were also referred to as "Little Joes" in reference to where they were originally supposed to be sent.

Description:  The U25B model was General Electric's first successful road diesel locomotive built for domestic use after the company split from its partnership with Alco, and an attempt at competition with other builders including rival EMD. Part of the Universal series of locomotives, 478 were produced between 1959 and 1966. Number 2500 was built in 1964, the first constructed for the New York Central Railroad and one of two that still exist from a fleet that eventually totalled seventy. Out of the 478 built, only six of these locomotives survive today.

Title:  GNWR 20
Description:  Today's Genesee & Wyoming is a worldwide shortline holding company. However back in 1944 when this 80-ton locomotive was constructed the GNWR was a small shortline in western New York which mainly hauled salt from the mines around Restof. Number 20 was the shortline's first diesel and perhaps the first locomotive to wear the familiar G&W orange and black seen on so many shortline railroads in the 21st century. The locomotive served the G&W well until 1962 when it was sold to a construction firm and used to help construct the Kinzua Dam in Warren, PA. It arrived at the museum in 2016.

Description:  The once all Alco powered Ashtabula Carson & Jefferson is now leasing this rebuilt SD-9 to move freight cars along its line based out of Jefferson. Locomotive is leased from Horizon Rail and has many interesting features, including an all weather window on the engineer's side of the cab and an e-bell. Constructed by EMD in 1957 as Nickel Plate Road 343. Also served Norfolk & Western and Norfolk Southern.

Description:  With the arrival of the leased SD-9 for freight operations, the remaining Alcos on the line seem to have been put out to pasture pending a decision about their future. AC&J 107 is only seven years older than its replacement, having been built in 1950. Coincidentally this switcher and the HZRX SD-9 came from the same railroad, the Nickel Plate as number 107 was originally NKP 45.

Description:  A view through the fence along North 6th Street of the turntable on the eastern end of the Juniata Shops. NS 2103 is one of the shop switchers assigned this day, moving locomotives in various stages of repair around the different shop tracks. The unit was built by EMD in 1973 as Reading Company 2613, one of the last new locomotives delivered before the former anthracite road was merged into Conrail a few years later.
