Mostly-the trailing unit is an SD 40-2. Conrail was not shy about running four axle power on big trains, though here on the ex NYC it was a common thing for a long time. Still, its quite a contrast to todays world of six axle power on everything. This 115 car DNDA was eastbound at Dewitt. |

Rolling out to Buffalo |
Description: |
SYNS 6 rolls out the west end of Dewitt with 81 cars for NS at Buffalo. Must be a bitter pill for a train on the ex NYC to hand off cars to the ex NKP. Check the Shawmut hoppers at right. |

Rolling past the station |
Description: |
Sometimes trains bypassing Dewitt yard would roll past on the station track, such as this 136 car westbound. The odd road number is due to Conrail starting up a fleet of lease units, which were renumbered to distinguish them from their system power. They took a page out of New Havens playbook, giving them a leading zero on the road numbers. |

Super vans |
Description: |
Conrail, perhaps in a marketing move, decided to call some of its intermodal trains "Super Vans." They looked a lot like stack, TOFC and COFC trains. This one is SV 14 arriving at Dewitt with 115 stack platforms, heading for the pig terminal. |
