Class unit
Title:  Class unit
Description:  The southbound grain train called the signal at North Gentry, then announced itself by blowing for the crossing. As it came around the bend, the lead unit turned out to be the SD70ACe class unit. It was originally gray, now repainted into the Belle scheme.

Caught him
Title:  Caught him
Description:  I had just gotten home from recycling-right by the tracks-when I heard a horn. This is a running joke between my wife and me: we always seem to hear a train within five minutes of returning home, no matter where weve been, or if weve been following the tracks the whole time we were out. I dropped the bins in the garage and headed out, knowing from the direction of the horn that it was a northbound. As I crested the hill into town, I heard the detectorf at Davidson Rd go off, and knew I had to hurry. As it turned out the train was being run into the siding at Gentry, and was holding there. Oh, good, a meet, I thought. I went to Main St and shot the head end as it waited at the site of the old station. Thats Ark 12 in the distance, Well see some shots from there later in the set.

Long line
Title:  Long line
Description:  A head on view shows the long line of coal hoppers stretched out toward the Ark 12 overpass and CP South Gentry, glinting in the late afternoon sun. Of note, trailing unit KCS 4575 was once a "NAFTA" unit, with a special paint job. It was painted into the Belle scheme in 2013

DPU into the siding.
Title:  DPU into the siding.
Description:  The DPU on the coal train swings into the siding, seen from the Ark 12 overpass. It would turn out there was to be no meet. I had left my scanner in the car, so did not hear any conversation with the dispatcher, so no idea why he had the train run through the siding here. The next southbound Im aware of didnt hit Siloam til several hours later, so must have met this guy at McElhany or Dalby.

Good timing
Title:  Good timing
Description:  We were heading out with the intention of a day out in Missouri when we caught this northbound empty grain train leaving Siloam Springs. We caught it at Gentry, seen here from the Ark 12 overpass as it takes the siding with 30 cars and spanking clean power. Bulbasaur(on the concrete bridge wall to the right of the leader) seems to have faded a bit since his arrival several years ago.

Description:  The northbound empty train, despite being only 30 cars, had a DPU, which was also a set of spanking clean KCS and CP power, here at the Ark 59S crossing north of town.

First train
Title:  First train
Description:  My wife got me a Canon T8i for Christmas, to replace a failing T1i-its a dozen years old, and probably obsolete by now(unlike my Nikkormats, which are 60 years old, and still work just fine. Too bad no more Kodachrome). So I took it out hoping to catch something, usually theres a southbound Q train in the afternoon. The Q train never materialized, but this empty grain train finally did, just as the light was going. I caught it at Y City Rd in Decatur, with enough sun to get some glint. So, this is my first train shot with the new camera. Looks like it performed well in iffy conditions. A trio of diesels, including an NS GE, roll 105 cars north

Just caught him
Title:  Just caught him
Description:  After we saw the light power move, we came out to take a ride in the sun, stopping at nearby Crystal Lake to do some bird watching and enjoy the 60 degree day. As we were heading back to Ark 59, we saw a southbound rolling past. A quick dash into Decatur got me ahead of the train, but just enough to jump and get a grab shot. So we have BNSF 6359 leading a 125 car TXUX train, and a nice shot of a light pole with an F unit behind it,

Title:  Pulling hard
Description:  Theres a shot but steep grade for southbounds through Decatur, and it was easy to beat the train down to Y City Rd for this shot of him topping the grade, and passing signal 219-1 and 2.

Going north
Title:  Going north
Description:  We chased the coal train down into Gentry, only to be stymied by 5 PM traffic. As I looked in hopes of catching a glimpse of the DPU on the coal train, and noticed there was a northbound in the siding. I ran up to Y City Road in hopes there would be enough sun to get a passable shot. It was hit and miss, but it sorta worked, with three units on this northbound 49 car M SHKC.
