Description: |
The WSOR's newest acquisition, recently painted SD40-2 number 4052, leads sister 4051 and a rare find in Madison- CSX motor number 6035. This movement is a CSX-bound ballast train that (until today) uses WSOR hoppers and WSOR power. The train is entering Madison's east side on the Waterloo Sub, just behind East Towne Mall. This used to be the MILW passenger line into Madison from Milwaukee, and will be part of the Chicago-Milwaukee-Twin Cities passenger rail initiative (if it ever happens). This would also be the approximate site of a spur/station for the city of Madison's proposed commuter line. For the time being, this stretch of 10mph track hosts thrice-weekly MABLT locals and CSX rock trains. This scene will look pretty different in ten years (hopefully)... |

Neither mosquitos nor hills nor sweat in my eyes could keep me from taking this shot. I'm 6'2", and this corn is absolutely dwarfing me as I'm standing straight up. Much of Wisconsin is suffering from a drought, but south-central WI is clearly doing fine. The exact location of this photo is unknown- I was biking in the middle of nowhere and turned down a long driveway to a farm to steal this shot. It's somewhere outside of Cottage Grove on the WSOR's short, but charismatic Cottage Grove sub. |

The 3802 and its amazingly loud whistle usher a handfull of cars towards MX crossing at Olin Ave. on Madison's south side. This is the location of the junction between the former C&NW mainline from Janesville to Madison and WSOR's Central Soya spur. There has been talk in recent years about putting the former C&NW mainline back into service to reach a business park south of Madison, but it looks like a jungle for the time being. Out of picture to the left is Madison's first public pool. The pool looks fantastic, and, probably owing to high temperatures and beach closures, it's a smash-hit in its first summer of operation. |
