DPP 7065 Pan On Narodni Trida
Description:
Ive been surprised again and again at how well the W302 can do panning. It doesnt even have manual controls, but somehow it usually works. I would have preferred for the tram to be less blurred in this shot, and for the car to be more so, but thats life. I think it came out quite nicely.

DPP 9111 at Podbaba
Description:
I first took photos of 9111 when it was relatively new in 2006. This one, the prototype, had been delivered for testing in 2005, with 9112 soon to follow, and I managed to witness but not photograph the testing. It was in 2006 when production fully got underway, and the initial order for 20 trams was quickly expanded to 21, and then to 43. It has since been expanded still further to 60, numbered 9111-9170, although 9170 is expected to be the last. In any case, 9111 was the first, and when I first photographed it the original standard silver paint (for the 14ts) was still on it. Now its been repainted into an advertising livery for Komercni Banka, with some other 14ts also being turned into advertising trams.

DPP 5525 at Radlicka, Picture 4,
Description:
One odd feature of Tatra trams is that they have an accelerator and brake pedal like a bus, instead of the traditional rail vehicle controls of a throttle and a few brake levers. Because 5525 is a training tram, however, the instructor gets his/her own brake pedal, seen on the right. The right seat is also a trainer-only feature, as a standard T3 only has the drivers seat in the cab.

On the ceiling of the cab, you can see one of the rearview mirrors (on the lower right, partly cropped, the ventilation control (I think), on the far right, and the pantograph control on the upper left (for raising and lowering the pantograph). The pantograph control looks like a bell control, but it isnt, of course. The bell is controlled by a pushbutton on the control desk.

DPP 5525 at Radlicka, Picture 6,
Description:
The passenger cabin on a training T3 is also non-standard. For one thing, the digital destination boards are facing inward, so that instructors can tell if the driver has set them correctly. Theyre invisible from the outside, where they always indicate that the tram is a trainer. Another non-standard feature is the partition one quarter of the way back, and I havent been able to figure out the purpose for this. In the front quarter of the cabin, however, the tables serve the obvious purpose of providing office space for the instructors. In the read three quarters, with the exception of the additional table that you can see on the left, the seating is more or less standard, for whatever purpose.

DPP 9014 at Vitezne Namesti
Description:
Recently, the KT8 fleet underwent a thorough rebuilding programme to equip them with modern computerised destination boards, new seats and wheelchair access, CCTV, dual headlights and other features, with the rebuilt units being designated KT8D5RN2P, as opposed to the original DPP specification of KT8D5. As such, the original D5s have become exceedingly rare, and until I spotted this one in Vitezne Namesti, I thought they had all been retired. Soon after I shot this, I also spotted 9030, which appears to also be unrebuilt, but Im not aware of how many others are left.

DPP 9170 in Podbaba
Description:
I spent a lot of time also in 2009 photographing the tram traffic in and out of Podbaba, and in addition, the massive disruption caused by the scandalous Tunnel Blanka project ensured that the usual tram #8 wasnt the service terminating in Podbaba, as the reorganization of the routes meant that tram service #20 covered it instead. I also got to bash and observe most of the new Skoda 14t fleet, as by 2009 all of them had been delivered. This is #9170, the last of the fleet, as the next order will be for the newer and boxier Skoda 15t model.

Having 1600 ISO film allowed me to photograph moving trams with a handheld camera in the middle of the night, so since I had limited time to photograph the Metro as midnight approached, I settled down in I.P. DPP 7030 at Narodni Trida, Picture 2,
Description:
This was another random shot, taken at the Narodni Trida tram stop. The Metro station is hidden back in the construction site. During the 1990s-2000s, that construction site was home to a number of additional shops next to Tescos, on the far left, although now its reverted to its Communist-era appearance as a mudpit. Im not sure exactly what the plan is for it, but it probably wont be left in this state for long.

Straps in DPP 7270
Description:
Traditionally, straps for transit users to hang from are rare in Prague, although the unrebuilt Tatra KT8 trams have them, as well as some of the old (retired) Metro trains. Theyve been making an appearance lately on the Tatra T3 fleet, though, as a form of advertising, as those grey sleeves on them can take ads.

Description:
This is a closer view of the unrebuilt T3, but still the number is unreadable. Like I said, Im 90% certain its 6201.

Tram In Window of U Jeleni, Picture 2
Description:
This is a shot that I got from U Jeleni, which is a pub up near Prazky Hrad, although its actually next to the Husinecka tram stop, hence this shot of a Tatra T3 out the window.

Blurred Tatra T6A5 at Night at the Meet Factory
Description:
This was a lucky shot with my cameraphone while I was waiting for a show behind the Meet Factory, a club closely connected to the alternative sculptor David Cerny. The tram is a Tatra T6A5 built around 1996, although the number is too blurred to read.

DPP 9203 at Narodni Divadlo
Description:
This wasnt my first-ever shot of one of the new Skoda 15t trams, but it was my first shot of one in revenue service. This was at the Narodni Divadlo stop, and the only reason that I got the shot was that I was in the coffeehouse in the Nova Scena (formerly Laterna Magika) theatre connected to the Narodni Divadlo, or National Theatre.
