Normally, I prefer the shot on the other side of this bridge-the one with the Elk River going under it. In the months with shorter days, the sun doesnt come over to that side til almost sunset. My choice was do the scenic shot, but with the train in shadow, or do the sun side, but not so scenic. Bagging it altogether was also an option. I picked the sun side, and it turned out OK. The bridge piers draw the viewers attention to the train, making a nice photo. |

Sometimes when I get into a northbound chase, I will catch a southbound waiting at McElhany for a meet. This is convenient, since it makes for a quick turnaround and gives me somehing to chase home. Today its a southbound 112 car coal train behind a mixed pair of BNSF units. |

The southbound starts to roll, passing through the signals at McElhany. Hed meet the empty train wed been chasing just south of here. I didnt get the meet, since I wanted to get this train at the detector north of Goodman, so got moving. |

Foliage season here in the Ozarks is not all its cracked up to be. Mostly we have oaks, and they tend to turn brown and just look dead. This year, we seem to have found the color, which is making for some great scenes. Heres one of them, a southbound coal train running along Butler Creek, about to pass under the Ark 59 overpass in Sulphur Springs. |
